NEW YORK PHOTOGRAPHY DAY 4

14/11/2011
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is one of America’s leading historic, cultural and educational institutions. Opened in 1982, the Museum has welcomed more than 10 million visitors. The Museum is centered on the aircraft carrier Intrepid (CVS-11), one of the most successful ships in US history, and now a national historic landmark and one of the most unique attractions in New York City. In 1943, Intrepid was commissioned and served proudly in World War II. She went on to serve as one of the primary recovery vessels for NASA, three tours of duty off Vietnam, and submarine surveillance in the North Atlantic during the Cold War. The Intrepid was also used as a base for FBI agents during the 9/11 attacks and also has a variety of military aircraft displayed on its deck, including the amazing A12 blackbird which was conceived in the 1960's and was able to take aerial photographs from 80,000 feet. Certainly worthy of a visit if you visit the area, also nice to see Concorde on the deck as well.

Afterwards it was a yellow cab uptown to get some food at the Heartland Brewery, a tasting menus of their ales was to good an opportunity to miss, although my self and Paul were rather taken with the Pumpkin beer! Tomorrow morning and after one last look around we will be back on the plane to the UK, another great time in New York and already planning the next visit!
