FORD MUSTANG 55th BIRTHDAY AT FORD UK

21/04/2019
Today, April 17, 2019, is a big day for Ford fans. On this day 55 years ago, the first Mustang was introduced at the New York World’s Fair. Henry Ford II unveiled the original pony car to a large crowd, while Ford dealerships around the country began selling. In the first day alone, an incredible 22,000 Mustangs were sold. It has been said that the company projected sales around 100,000 for the first year, but Americans blew demand for the car out of the water, purchasing 419,000 of them in the first year. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Today, enthusiasts and performance companies around the globe celebrated the milestone birthday. A group of enthusiasts have joined to form an initiative, encouraging Mustangs owners to take them to the streets every April 17th. Social media is alive with pictures and videos honouring the momentous anniversary. Dunton technical centre was the perfect place for the official UK gathering, with models spanning the 55 years including the original and new Mustang Bullitt's, a model given legendary stars by movie legend Steve McQueen in the film "Bullitt".

I was with the members of the Mustang Owners Club of Great Britain, covering the event for their magazine and also Fast Ford magazine who are keen to promote the car among its readers on a more regular basis. The photography covered the static displays, the parade laps and also general photos of the day, which was made perfect by the stunning weather.
