The 24-70mm lens has a great close focusing facility and is perfect for these type of abstract photos, ordinarily I would use the 100mm macro but these can be a bit too close in on occasions. Also having the 24-70mm lens gives a bit more creativity. The photo shown is a close up of a front headlight of a Honda Accord, under exposed by 2/3rds as this then gives more contrast to the overall image.
