FAST FORD MUSTANG CAR PHOTOGRAPHY

05/11/2019
The Special Vehicle Team (SVT) is a collection of talented individuals employed by Ford and charged with the responsibility of designing and developing the venerable auto manufacturer's high-performance vehicle lines. The Mustang SVT Cobra-R is widely regarded as one of the best SVT products of all time.

To stiffen the chassis, a strut tower brace was installed to tie the cowl together, and a pair of V-braces (used on all 1983–1993 Mustang convertibles) attached in an X-pattern tied the subframes together. The Cobra R featured Eibach springs that were a bit too stiff for the street, but perfect on a racetrack. The Cobra R also benefitted from the adjustable Koni shocks and struts, helping to cement the car's reputation as a serious driving machine.

Owner Pete has kept this example in immaculate condition and when I arrived at his home in Stansted we weren't sure where to go for the shoot, I didn't know the area and it seems that the airport was the only location noticeable on the map that wasn't too far away, permission on a Saturday would be declined so we drove around and came across an industrial estate. What happened next you couldn't have scripted, a group of muscle men pulling a lorry, so it seemed an opportune moment to ask them to pose with an all American muscle car! One of my favourite photo sessions as it was off the cuff and the guys at Koru gym were good sports. The photo shoot ended with some car to car rolling road photos, Pete's father is an avoid Ford fan and his MK1 Focus RS was a great tracking car on the day. The photo shoot and article on the Cobra R will be in a Mustang magazine produced by Fast Ford and out in the New Year.
