MUSICIAN RYAN STRAND PHOTO SHOOT FOLKESTONE
24/06/2011

Musician Ryan Strand
After having a chat beforehand we decided the best location would be the old station by Folkestone harbour, I had covered a model photography course here a few months ago and with the early evening light and location it would work well for a variety of images that Ryan can use for the forthcoming album and other promotional purposes. Ryan had brought a few different clothes with him as well to create some different looks, he also had his strat and an acoustic guitar. The temptation with music photos is to go for the cliche looks, which admittedly we did cover but with the old station their are some great backdrops and these gave a slightly different feel to the photos. In just over an hour we had a really good mix of images and with the aid of a single speedlight off camera some dramatic as well as abstract images. Although it did start to rain just as we finished off the large black and white image does have a filter added for a moodier look.
A bit of info on Ryan's forthcoming album and tour: "While his band Waterhorse are on a break, guitarist Ryan Strand has been busy writing and recording his debut solo album, provisionally entitled 'Maybe It's Only Real When I Want It To Be'. Signalling a departure from Waterhorse's folk roots, the album is an eclectic mix, with a real melodic pop/rock feel to it, heavily influenced by singer/songwriters such as Richard Marx and Gary Barlow. Once the album is finished, Ryan and fellow Waterhorse member Paul Townsend (who drums and co-produces on several tracks) will be putting together a 5-Piece band and taking the music out on the road, hopefully in time for the festival season in summer 2012...."
