REVIEW OF THE YEAR

30/12/2013
A cold start to the year and the first few months were in the automobile and education sector, highlight of the year early on was the launch of the stunning new Ferrari F12 where I covered the official launch for HR Owen at their Atelier showroom in Mayfair, another auto car shoot was a little different where I headed down to the New Forest in Hampshire for Renault UK where Kent based dealer Motorline had supplied a fleet to the council where the electric Twizy was going to be used by tourists to drive around locally. Electric cars and horses were the content for the shoot where the finished photographs were used in a double page spread in Fleet World Magazine. Faversham based brewer Shepherd Neame were investing heavily in photography this year and I had a real mix of photography shoots for them, lifestyle beach shoots, pub refurbishment interior and exterior photography in Kent, London and Surrey plus a fun shoot with comedians Armstrong and Miller where they played a one off show at Ye Olde Pump House in Hastings. My annual trip to Geneva was booked again for Ebace private jet show for Private Jet Charter, good weather this year and a real mix of luxury on board each jet for some lifestyle and interior photos for the client.

2013 was a good year for celebrity photos, Anne Widdecombe staring down the barrel of the lens, Camilla Delarup of Strictly fame dancing around a kitchen for Vileda mops, the aforementioned Armstrong and Miller along with a few other familiar faces from TV. Education was another big area for me this year, with the importance of strong imagery required in this field and flexibility in covering a range of different subjects I seem to have developed a niche in this field. Travel wise it took me all over the UK, including Kent, London, Norfolk and Staffordshire.

As the year drew to a close and after having two of my busiest months ever, July and September it has certainly been a testing year, clients pulling the pursestrings, the weather which effected income and the increase in the need for images on the spot for social media has made it a tougher year then expected. My main highlights were covering London Fashion Weekend which Canon UK invited me to attend and also the Remembrance Day Service at Lloyds of London, two jobs at complete opposites but a joy to photograph.

Kit wise the world of Digital photography is always updating and the purchase of the Canon 1DX was an investment I had to make, quality wise it is superb all round and having the full frame in the 1D body works so well, alongside this the 300mm F4 was a good value purchase and I went back to my roots where I first started as a Pro covering the current season for Canterbury Rugby Club, the speed and accuracy of the 1DX is amazing. What will 2014 bring? It looks like retro cameras are the rage, Fuji, Nikon and Olympus are all selling vast amounts of these styles of cameras with Fuji gaining a new lease of life from there X100 and other designs. I can see Canon following in these footsteps early in 2014. I might just pick up my Canon AE-1 and stick a roll of 35mm film in it and enjoy the real retro style of photography!

Happy New Year and thank you for following the blog this year.
