DELOREAN DMC-12 CAR PHOTOGRAPHY IN LONDON

30/05/2017
DeLorean had a mixed reception when it first appeared in the 70's, with a 0-60 mph time of 10.5 seconds it wasn't deemed quick enough for a sports/GT car, although it had the looks. The stainless steel body panels made every car look the same, but no corrosion, although it does easily show fingerprints very easily. In 1985 the car was at its height of attention, although no linger available with the Back to the Future trilogy of films. The car still attracts attention, as the film remains popular and the car plays such a pivotal role in the film. The car gained a considerable amount of attention in 2015, specifically October 21, 2015. The characters Marty McFly and Emmett Brown traveled into the future in Back to the Future Part II and ended up in 2015 on October 21. On the real October 21, 2015, the movie was celebrated all over the United States, and some other countries, and the date became known as "Back to the Future Day.

The car photography shoot in London took place at 6.30am in the morning, Sunday is a great day as the capital is quiet and the only life are joggers and dog walkers. The car attracts so much attention and everyone smiles at the car, people remembering its starring role in the films or youngsters who have never seen anything like it before. The gullwing doors add to the space like look of the car and made for a varied set of shots against the backdrop of Canary Wharf. I used a single Profoto B1 flash to light the car, from experience with these cars strong sunlight brings the car up well, the light was there to lift the shadows and allow me to underexpose on some images to retain depth and detail in the stainless steel bodywork. The 70-200mm covered all of the photos, great to pick up detail images and to throw the depth of filed out, and also to capture the car against the city backdrops.
