CANTERBURY RUGBY CLUB PHOTOGRAPHY LONODN IRISH

The game started at a frantic pace and with London Irish taking an early lead Canterbury were holding on with some strong attacking play and plenty of possession as the first half drew to a close. In the second half the home side played to their strengths and came away with a thrilling 23-20 win which keeps them fourth place in the league, just three points behind Cambridge.

The 1DX has been getting a severe amount of use so I decided to use the 1D4 today with the 300mm F4 lens, the 1.3x crop sensor of the 1D4 provides a 390mm focal length and with the auto focus sensitivity set left to right it would be an interesting test against the flagship 1DX. Admittedly the 1D4 hasn't the flexibility of auto focus options that the DX has, this means that it isn't always 100% accurate but this is as much down to stability and using the shutter speeds to their maximum, difficult in low winter light but at 1/500th of a second and ISO 800 their was plenty of sharp images that were taken, if anything the 1D4 makes you concentrate just that bit harder and the cropped sensor provided an ideal focal length across the action.
