MONEYSUPERMARKET.COM PHOTA YOUR MOTA COMPETITION

17/06/2013
I have been a full time professional photographer for nine years now and cover automotive and commercial photography across the Uk and Europe. I have always had a passion for cars and photography since the age of 8 where I used to go to Brands Hatch with my parents, my Dad's Canon Ae-1 was laways competing with the pros and their thousand pound lenses! My work covers all aspects of photography and cars are my "hobby" aspect of photography as well, whether it is taking a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Miura or a humble VW Beetle the challange to come up with a different view is always my inspiration. I also cover the photography for Brooklands Museum which in recent years has also become my base for automotive and fashion training courses.

The Moneysupermarket "Phota your Mota" (their spelling not mine!) is a great way to showcase your car photography and also to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes, including the top prize of £1000 towards your car insurance, four runners up will receive a mini ipad as well. I am proud to be one of the judges for the competition and for me good car photography is about location, lighting (natural or artificial) and originality, although sometimes the most simplest of shots can look just as dramatic. I would be happy to see your Vauxhall as well as a Ferrari, so their is no need to travel doen to Monaco to get the latest F12 on the road.

I have included an example of one of my favourite car photos, a stunning white Ferrari 458, this was taken in London on a winters evening, camera set on a tripod with a 20 second exposure at F11 ISO 200, the long exposure allows some dramatic light trails to take place, the tall white lines are from a London bus, this is a great way to tray and add some drama to your photos and is just as effective with a classic or every day car. This photo featured in a recent article on transport in Digital Photographer where I was asked to give my top tips for automotive photography.
