LAURA OAKES INTERIOR DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHY EAST SUSSEX

14/02/2013
Laura has developed her range over the last few years and after starting out selling her own artwork in a tiny gallery in Rye, she now works from her studio in an impressive old iron forge in the town, which also houses her shop. Her collection is constantly changing – not only the ’found’ furniture she brings back to life, the printed perspex panels and lightboxes that adorn her walls, but also the growing range of cushions, lampshades, and other home accessories which are all made in the U.K. She also supplies to design-led shops and individuals all over the world, and has recently launched a new website which she herself has designed.

Another side to the Laura Oakes brand is the bespoke design service she offers. Be it embellishing boutique hotels, cool urban bars or more homely habitats, her work translates to pretty much any surface and any interior, taking interior design beyond the realms of wallpaper and paint. The designs often include clients’ own treasures as well as Laura’s photographs and drawings, making each piece completely personal and original.

On to the photography today and finding warmth and colour was not a problem at all with all of the various designs, whether it was on sofas, chairs, tables of the soft furnishing accessories. The backdrop of the brickwork and warmth of the lighting in the shop provided a nice mix of homely photographs. Laura is looking to use these for her website, press releases and marketing. She is also just venturing in to clothing with some bespoke designs on the fashion icon which is the leather biker jacket, we will be covering a fashion shoot with these in due course and I expect the demand for these will be phenomenal. The majority of the photos were taken with the 24-70mm lens attached to the 5D MK3, Giottos tripod and ISO100 with some long exposures to soak up the ambient lighting and interior lights of the table and ceiling lights that were on. Looking forward to working with Laura and her team again soon, meanwhile take a look at her amazing website Visit lauraoakes
