CHRIST CHURCH UNIVERSITY SUMMER BALL 2012

Article text
I arrived just after 7pm as students and guests started to arrive, a good opportunity to get some of the fair ground rides with the students in good spirits, on display were also stilt walking bats and other weird and wonderful attractions. Their were a couple of other stages where I caught 80's legend Hazel O Connor sound checking with her band. First act o the main stage was Sarah Devkin, a Christ Church student who had won a slot opening up this years concert. James Kirby followed with an amazing acoustic set, very much in the Ben Howard and Ed Sheeran mould but with some amazing acoustic playing and soul he is definitely one to watch. Kids in Glass Houses are a welsh rock band, formed in 2007 their sound is full of raw energy and their performance really set the crowd going. Aled Phillips the lead singer was amazing and the twin guitar and rhythm section are an extremely tight unit. DJ Sara Cox done a set prior to International musician Labrinth, his energy made me tired following him through the lens, not my type of music but I really appreciated his musicianship and especially his licks on guitar were impressive.

Kit wise for the night I used the 24-70 and 15mm fisheye, lighting was superb and enabled fast shutter speeds even at ISO 800, on occasions I pushed this up to 1250 but generally the lower ISO coped extremely well, only had a chance to edit a few images prior to Saturday mornings job, plus getting in at 2am meant some much needed sleep was on the cards after a 20 hour stint yesterday!
